Armageddon – fact or fiction? Is there an Armageddon, apocalypse, or Judgment Day in which the fallen world is destroyed by God? The book of Revelation foretells that the Great Day of God’s Wrath will come. It’s a fact. Both Daniel and Revelation show this Great Day of God’s Wrath will be the final 3½ years before Christ returns.
1. The Start of the Final 7 Years – the Last Week in Daniel 9:27
“Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week…”
The final 7 years begin with the “covenant with many” that would allow the Jews to offer sacrifices and offerings once again. There will be peace and safety for the first 3½ years (1 Thess. 5:3), but then the “covenant with many” will be broken by the beast.
2. The Beast
“But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering…” (Dan. 9:27b). In the middle of the final 7 years, the beast will force an end to the sacrifices and offerings. Revelation 13 describes the rise of the beast from the abyss [the Antichrist]: he will have the authority of Satan, demand the entire world to worship him and his image; and people will have to take the mark of the beast in order to buy and sell. The beast will make war with God’s people remaining on the earth and overcome them (Rev. 13:7), and some will be martyred by the beast (Rev. 15:2; 20:4).
3. The Opening of the 6th Seal – the Prelude of the Great Day of God’s Wrath
This time also marks the opening of the 6th seal (Rev. 6:12-17). The earth will be struck with a great earthquake causing every mountain and island to move out of its place; the sun will become black and the moon like blood; the stars of heaven will fall to the earth. Mankind will hide in caves and in the rocks of the mountains to hide from God’s wrath. The whole world will know that the Great Day of God’s Wrath is coming.
4. The Great Day of God’s Wrath
Revelation chapters 8-9 describe God’s wrath and judgment upon the earth: ⅓ of nature on the earth and the seas will be destroyed. Drinking water will become blood. The abyss will be opened and the demons imprisoned therein will be released and torture man for 5 months. Afterwards, ⅓ of the population of the earth will be killed. In Revelation 16, God will judge the beast (Antichrist) and his kingdom with the last 7 bowls which will end in the war of Armageddon. Finally, the beast and the false prophet will be cast into the lake of fire. And the armies of the world who followed him will be killed by the breath of Christ’s mouth (Rev. 17:14; 19:11-21).
Then Christ will establish His millennial kingdom on this earth.
What will happen to the believers during the Great Day of God’s wrath, the last 3½ years? The traditional teaching of Christianity is that all the believers will be raptured. But, is it true?
